Mar Elias Hill in Ajloun Governorate witnessed annual prayers on July 20 for the Latin Church, and on the second of August for the Orthodox Church. 

The history of this tourist place goes back to the Prophet of God, Elijah, who was evident in Sabiti, descending from the village of Chebekerb, where he ascended to the sky and disappeared in the sun in this sky, east of the Jordan, near Jericho, and after a stone’s throw from Ain al-Kharrar.

This area witnessed the honoring of Elijah by the first Christian generations on this hill, as pieces of coins dating back to the period before Christ were found in this place, as well as coins of Roman administrative rulers from the year 6 before Christ to the year 60 after Christ.

This site is distinguished as a site of pilgrimage for communities and witnessed a large turnout from various countries of the world of believers to take the head of this place, and based on its holiness, a contribution was made to the establishment of the papal nuncio (Ambassador of Al-Fati to Jordan), Bishop Giovanni Dal Tosso, the distant Prophet Elijah (Mar Elias). The accident occurred this year, the twenty-fifth conference on the discovery of this important archaeological site.

To distinguish between them, he called the first church “the greater or higher church” and the second church “the greater or lower church.”

Since 2000, the Vatican site has been the site of Saint Elias, one of five major sites for comprehensive pilgrimage in Jordan. Next year, believers around the world will be invited to undertake pilgrimage trips to the holy places, highlighting the important places of pilgrimage in various parts of the world, including historical sites. and existing religion.
