.
There are few
places in the world where a person finds history, sanctity, and deep faith in
the Lord, and very rare are the places that preserve their memory, scent, and
spirituality.
Jordan contains a
single, unique and rare place in the world that witnessed an event that
constitutes an important and essential part of the Christian faith.
To the east of the
Jordan River mentioned in the Bible in the village of Bethany, the bathtub is
located in Wadi Al-Kharrar, approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the
capital, Amman. This is the place where Christ was baptized by John the Baptist
more than two thousand years ago.
The Bible and
historical and archaeological evidence clearly show that the bathtub is the
place where Christ was baptized, and it has now become a spiritual attraction
for millions of Christians, because the Christian pilgrimage stops there on the
second Friday of January of each year, and the Catholic churches hold a festive
mass, and the third Friday is For Orthodox Christians, and the fourth for
Chaldean and Maronite Christians.
From the location
of the bathtub, you can see the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, and you
can see Jerusalem and Jericho on the west bank of the Jordan River, as Pope
Benedict XVI did in his historic visit to the bathtub in 2009.
It is fortunate
that the bathtub is located in a country famous for its authentic Arab
hospitality and traditions, has an infrastructure for tourism, and most
importantly, enjoys security, stability, and interfaith coexistence.
Getting to the
bathtub is very easy by car and bus, and transportation prices in Jordan are
more than excellent. The means of transportation are modern and subject to the
supervision of the authorities and high-level service standards.
The baptism site
contains a visitor center, antique and gift shops, an airstrip, and parking, so
pilgrims and visitors can move around easily.
In addition,
visiting the bathtub is not limited to the time of Christian pilgrimage only,
as the holy place is open throughout the year and provides a spiritual
experience for contemplation and deep faith in the Lord. Children’s baptism and
other religious rituals are also held there.
Welcome to Jordan
on a spiritual pilgrimage during which you visit the bathtub and relive the
moments of faith in the baptism of Christ, and welcome to a safe, hospitable,
and peace-loving country.
Remember when you
plan a visit for the Christian Hajj in January 2024 or in any month, that you
will see a place unlike any other in the world, and you will live a different
and new spiritual experience, and you will always find Jordanians who welcome
you, help you, and share with you your moments of faith.
